My first ever blog post! I’ll give you a bit of background as to how this came to fruition.
I decided a couple of months ago that it might be time for me to do some updating. Showreels, website, hair colour and the like, and decided that if I was going to create a new site then maybe I should go ahead and create a new blog too!
The thing is, I really love talking. Kinda lucky that, but I also love writing. I don’t write as part of my job, just for my own amusement. I like writing letters and poetry and general musings so having a place that I can write occasionally really appeals to me and seems like fun, and that is what has brought about the inclusion of this blog on my new fancy pants website!
Ah, the website. I should mention that too. I was chatting to a good buddy of mine recently about career stuff. You will have heard him/heard of him/seen him. His name is Darren Altman and he has been kicking ass on Britain’s Got Talent until recently when he narrowly missed out on a place in the final. We have been friends for quite some time now, having met originally in New York where we were both attending a voiceover event. In the years that have followed we have been in touch regularly, taking an interest in each other’s careers and it was Darren I first spoke to about my ideas for a new site. He put me in touch with his web designer, Keith Pearson at Avara Web Marketing who worked his magic and created what you see before you now.
Obviously, a Voiceover Artist’s website wouldn’t be up to much if there were no audio so for shiny new demos, there was only one option…Dave Fisher at Pacific Audio. The guys at Pacific and I go way back. They made my first ever showreels 10 years ago and really helped me launch my career so it was great to go full circle and work with them again. All the audio on my site is from real campaigns and Dave did an amazing job of editing it all together, advising me on what to lose and what to keep and doing it all while sending me ridiculous cartoon images of fish and thought provoking links to videos on the Brexit. (He’s in Glasgow. I’m in London. I think he wants to make sure I’m not having my mind corrupted by Westminster!!)
So here we are!
And it is fun! Maybe my next post will be a bit more about my career and what brought me from growing up on a little 45sq mile island to living life in London doing maybe the best job in the world? Yeah! That’s what I’ll do next! x
